I’m sure you have heard of the many ways to have success with love, travel, career, etc for the new year by any of the following:

  • Tossing lentils above your head

  • Sitting under your dinning room table

  • Eating 12 grapes

  • Wearing red undies

  • Etc.

I myself have tried many of these yearly rituals and I can say some have worked for me and plenty have not.

What I will say that will never fail is tending to your home and altars. Hopefully you all have read my previous blog post titled, "Ritualize your life", this is be very helpful in understanding this post. Mostly everything we do is a ritual and preparing for the new year is one of the largest one we all participate in. This could be going out and buying new clothing to attend the new year parties, because we want to bring in the new year wearing something new. Having a gathering at home or friends/family bringing in the year with a fest surrounded by loved ones. Every culture does something, within the African American community we typically will cook up some greens, hoppin' john, cornbread, candied yams and so-on. Within the Hispanic & Latino community we will eat 12 grapes, wear red panties or yellow, run around the block with a suitcase and once again the list goes on.

Now many want to be out the house at a party celebrating, most likely at a bar, club or lounge wearing their best outfit counting down with strangers. I myself will be home watching something on Netflix or something. Whatever you are signed up to do I have a list of things what allow you to prepare and allows you to be out on the town if you so choice.

This ritual is fairly simple but takes 3 days, for some less. I have spaced things out over the course of 3 days so you won't feel overwhelmed and you can be done on or before December 31st.

Day 1 (12/28): I want you to spiritually cleanse your home and altars if you have them. This day I want you to turn on some music this makes you feel good, music that uplifts your spirits and I need for you to get ready to move some energy around. Now not everyone smudges out their home, could be because of family or having roommates, whatever it may be there are other options. If you aren't able to smudge you home one tip I will give is to put florida water in a spray bottle and spray every corner of your home. Be sure to make a floor wash to cleanse your space, if you have carpet you can still spiritually cleanse with baking soda and essential oils. Now that you have swept, mopped and smudged, it is time to tackle your altars. Take this time to rid of old offerings, wipe down photos and statues, spray spiritual colognes and feed spirit. In doing this it will shift the energy within your home, assisting with clearing out stagnation. Spend time on day 1 cleaning the front end of your home (living room, dining room and kitchen).

Day 2 (12/29): Now that we have taken care of the altars and front end of the house, let's now tackle our bedroom and closet. No need to worry about smudging again, we took care of this on day 1. Focus on organizing and getting rid of clutter. Clean your ceiling fan, only God knows when the last time it's been wiped down. Those pile of clothes sitting in the corner, put them up or toss them in the dirty clothes hamper. Head into your closet and rid of items you can't fit or don't wear. Organize your shoes. Those items thats sitting in bags and/or boxes, it's time to find a proper place to put them or toss them out.

Day 3 (12/30): This is the final day. I made this the final day so you can fully relax and enjoy the last day of the calendar year. Day 3 focus on your bathroom. Clean that top, sink, toilet. Wash all your towel, bedding and clothes. If you feel called to it, sweep and mop once again. Fortunately you won't have to do a major clean, since we handled that on day 1. Once you have finished everything, you are now ready for the NYE festivities.

I have an additional suggestion. TAKE A SPIRITUAL BATH!!! Take a spiritual bath before you head out for the night. Wash away all that lingering energy. Wash away that bad juju. Even if you plan on staying home, still take a spiritual bath. You have cleansed your home and now it's time to cleanse yourself. This is a fool proof way of bringing in the new year on the right foot. I am wishing you all a year full of love, prosperity, money, travel and good health.

Many have heard the saying, "you are what you eat." However we only assumed this had everything to do with what we put into our mouths....
